Betty Marie Hopkins

SPRINGFIELD-Betty Marie Hopkins, 87, of Springfield passed away Sunday, September 26, 2010 at 6:50 PM at St. John's Hospital.

She was born June 2, 1923 at Coldwater, Michigan, the daughter of the late Carl and Florence (Hollis) Meritt. She married Robert M. Hopkins on November 6, 1980 at Chicago, IL; he preceded her in death.

Betty worked for the Secretary of State for more than 20 years and was a key member in passing legislation for the seatbelt law. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Toastmistress Club and American Business Women's Association.

Survivors: Son, Alan (wife, Denna) Achenbach of Taylorville, IL; Daughter, Dr. Sally (husband, Robert) Jenkins of Elmhurst, IL; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; Brother, Joseph Meritt of Oregon; Sister, Wanetta Warring of Fort Wayne, IN; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 2, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield with Rev. Jim Ferrill officiating.

Shafer-Perfetti Funeral Home in Taylorville is in charge of the arrangements.
