Chieko Stumbo, 93, of Sorento, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2021 at her residence.

Chieko was born January 4,1928, in Tokyo, Japan, the daughter of Kumao and Asaki Nogami. She graduated from high school in Japan, and then married Phillip E. Shipp, Sr. He preceded her in death. She then married William A. Stumbo, and he too preceded her in death.

Chieko retired from Western Electric as a machine operator after twenty years of service. She was one of a kind, and always willing to help others. Chieko especially loved volunteering and helping the elderly at several local nursing homes. In her youth, she enjoyed square dancing. Chieko was a past member of the First Baptist Church of Greenville, and currently a member of The Hedge in Sorento.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Michael Gausepohl; sister-in-law Barbara Shipp; two sisters; and a brother.

Chieko is survived by her children, Thomas E. (Pamela) Shipp, of Ohio, Mary Gausepohl of Sorento, Phillip Edward Shipp, Jr. of Florida, and Phillip Eugene Shipp of Montana; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
