Edward Wallace

Edward Wallace, 50, of Sorento, passed away at 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Hillsboro Area Hospital.
Ed was born July 14, 1971 in Greenville, the son of Larry D. and Ruby (Miller) Wallace. He graduated from Greenville High School with the Class of 1989, and went on to proudly serve our country in the United States Marine Corps. Upon his honorable discharge, Ed earned his bachelor’s degree, and then re-enlisted with the Army National Guard, where he was currently a Training NCO with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Ed was an avid outdoorsman, whether it be spending time at the beach or fishing, being outdoors is what made him most happy. He was a talented photographer, and he especially enjoyed taking pictures of sea life on his snorkeling trips to exotic locations.
He was preceded in death by his father, Larry D. Wallace; and paternal grandparents, Walter and Bernadine Wallace.
Ed is survived by his mother, Ruby Wallace of Sorento; siblings, Wayne (wife, Cindy) Wallace of Litchfield, Dena (husband, Phillip) Petroline of Sorento, and James Martin of Colorado; his significant other, Kayla Hurst and her son, Reid of Waterloo; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation: The family will receive guests from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 17, 2022 at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home, 201 S. Main Street, Sorento, IL 62086. The visitation will conclude with full military honors by the United States Army.

Rest easy brother
Worked with Ed at Tower Automotive,I considered not only a coworker but a good friend. Only he would understand the nickname he gave me after one of our 3rd shift food runs. Sweet pickle Jim Love and miss you Ed God speed my brother!!!

I always loved Ed’s sense of humor on the school bus when we were kids. When I found him decades later on Facebook and mentioned my sink had backed up, he drove all the way from Edwardsville to Belleville to try to unclog it for me at no charge. Who does that? Not very many people. I always enjoyed his jokes and will miss him, even if I hadn’t seen him in person for several years. My deepest sympathy to all his friends and family. I made a small donation to the Got Your Six rescue dog program in appreciation for all the funny “not my cat” and wildlife camera posts he made on Facebook. He will be missed!

Ed was a hero in many ways- for his country, friends and family. My hero moment with Ed was when we were kids- Roxanne and I went wading in her backyard creek and a leech attached itself to my ankle- a little scary and gross but SO glad Ed was there to get it off! In our 30s, he again helped by chauffeuring me to Springfield to visit Roxanne (on more than 1 occasion). Ed seemed to enjoy, or was very graciously pretending, to enjoy the Walmart trips, eating at Red Lobster, cruising Springfield, and reminiscing about our school days/friends. Ed was so great to so many; the world was a better place with him in it.
