James Dale Skinner, 72, of Morrisonville, passed away at 4:18 a.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at his residence.

Jim, known by friends and family as “Pappy”, was born December 3, 1948 in Taylorville, the son of Harold and Ruth (Oller) Skinner.  He proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  Upon his honorable discharge, Jim married Marilyn R. Barrows on May 27, 1972 at the Taylorville Church of the Nazarene, and they have enjoyed nearly 50 years of marriage.  He worked as a semi-truck driver for over 40 years, before his retirement.  Jim was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Morrisonville, and a member of the American Legion Post #721 in Morrisonville.  He loved fishing for anything that would bite, and just being out on the water.  In his younger years, Jim enjoyed rabbit hunting, and he never would pass on an opportunity to listen to Big Joe’s Polka Show.  Jim was a true patriot, and he was especially proud to have served his country.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Heather Marie Skinner; sisters, Ruby Helms, Alberta Delahunt, Violet Esther Woodkirk, Betty Skinner, Brenda Skinner, and Wileen “Sue” Hendricks; and brothers, Melvin “Bill”, Earl, Sherman, and Clifford Skinner.

Jim is survived by his wife, Marilyn R. Skinner of Morrisonville; children, James David (Ashley) Skinner of Jacksonville, Phillip Edward (Tracie) Skinner of Morrisonville, Andrew Joseph (Jen) Skinner of Morrisonville, and Michelle Rae (Daniel) Skinner-Crowder of Taylorville; grandchildren, Bethany, Arin, David, Kira, Blake, Harley, Lydia, and Libby Skinner, Alishia (Adam) Wright, Thomas (Taylor) Skinner, Jacob Clampet, Alex, Josh, and Kendell Skinner, Michael (Hannah) Skinner, and Austin Crowder; great grandchildren, Elaine and Eli; siblings, Larry Skinner of Blue Mound, Sheila Skinner of Taylorville, Mary (husband, Claude “Gene”) Grandfield of Blue Mound, Donald (wife, Brenda) Skinner of Harvel, and Clarissa (husband, William) Hirtman of Decatur; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
