Missy Lowis-Owens, 45, of Taylorville, passed away at 2:23 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Missy was born December 28, 1974 in Springfield, the daughter of Vernon G. and Julie V. (Harris) Lowis.  She graduated from Morrisonville High School in 1993, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Taylorville.  Missy worked for the Currency Exchange in Decatur for eight years, and then worked as a waitress and bartender for Smokey Bones and Whit’s End.  She loved life, and would do anything to help someone in need.  Missy loved animals, especially her dogs, and she was a loving MiMi to her grandsons.

She was also preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Lloyd and Ella Harris; paternal grandfather, Howard Lowis; and several aunts and uncles.

Missy is survived by her sons, Tyler (Breanna Seals) Owens of Taylorville, and Dylan (Ashley Raymond) Stockdale of Clarksville, TN; grandsons, Treven and Hendrix Owens of Taylorville; mother, Julie Lowis of Taylorville; father, Vern (Maureen Dowdy) Lowis of Taylorville; sister, Stephanie (Allan Thompson) Thomas of Stonington; grandmother, Wanda Lowis of Taylorville; nieces and nephews, Tawny, Tyler, Toby, and Timmy; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visitation:  The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2020 at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home in Taylorville.  In keeping with CDC guidelines, only ten guests at a time will be allowed to visit with the family.

Private family ceremonies will be held, followed by interment at Pleasant View Cemetery in Assumption.

  3. Missy was such an amazing person she was like my big sister when I was growing up she use to come pick me up and I use to go stay the night with her hang out with her and her friends. I really looked up to her we have lost touch up u till about 2 years ago when I ran across her on bere and we exchanged numbers. Now this to her mom julie I’m so sorry for the loss of ur daughter I know she ment the world to u and ur husband I share my deepest condolences  and will be praying for u her son and the rest of ur family during this difficult time .may she rest in paradise because that’s what she deserved 

  4. Missy was a sweet student at MHS which I had the privilege to teach. She was a great friend to my daughter, Maggie. She will be sadly missed by many.
