Richard Roger Gerl, 60, of Sorento died May 12, 2010, at Greenville Regional Hospital.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Perfetti Funeral Home in Sorento. Funeral services will be Sunday, May 16, at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Dave Trover officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Cemetery.

Born June 2, 1949, at St. Louis, he was a son of the late Richard Carl and Marjorie (McKinnerney) Gerl. He married Carol Jane Lacey May 10, 1975, at Greenville, and she survives.

Mr. Gerl worked for 25 years at ASARCO as a foreman and chemist and then for 10 years at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville as a custodian. He was a member of National Rifle Association, Highland Pistol and Gun Club and Bassmasters. He was also a trivia team member and coached baseball in Panama and Sorento.

Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie (husband Matt) Scarborough of Sorento, and Crystal (husband Miguel) Carpani of Hillsboro; two grandchildren, Kenny Voyles and Leo Scarborough; one great-grandchild, Reagan Carpani; a sister, Helen Ann Kremer of Placerville, CA; and five nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Greg Gerl; and a brother, Raymond McKinnerney.
